The City Engineer’s Department

The City Engineer’s Department is entrusted with a myriad of responsibilities of which the major ones are:

Transport and Cleansing Department
Transport and Cleansing Department,
Damian Street.

  • The monitoring and control of all building development and construction activities in the City.
  • The development, improvement and maintenance of:
  1. The physical infrastructures i.e. roadways, sidewalks, bridges and drains
  2. Recreational facilities
  3. Corporation Institutions and other properties, and
  4. Vehicles, plant and equipment belonging to the Corporation.

In 1997, these functions were executed through a staff comprising 83 pensionable officers and 1400 daily rated employees distributed in the following areas:-

  1. Buildings Department
  2. Works Division
  3. Transport and Cleansing Department
  4. Stores Department
  5. Administrative Section
  6. Various Institutions

Under its Development Programme for 1997, the City Engineer’s Department completed a number of significant projects in the City, including:-

The City Engineer’s Department also acquired three new garbage collection units for the year.
